here are a few recent photos of the nagoya meijo subway line taken the other day on the way to a local flea market. i'm starting to take a lot of these. more to come later. some are a little interesting. some not so much.
more japanese cultural info from my buddy clayton. you can find these fireworks at various japanese festivals being held by people a lot braver than me. check out clayton's pics of the fireworks in action to the left.

next time i see this parked outside my apartment i'm going to steal it. i hate cars cause they're not eco friendly, but i'm pretty sure this one is fueled by magic and warm feelings. japan has the coolest toys.
my student at mitsubishi has taken an interest in photography. he wants to start photographing his 3 year old twin daughters. i promised him i would bring in my canon rebel for him to fool around with.
here are some photos of a local festival that happened yesterday. there was a riverside portion that looked really cool, but we arrived too late to see it. supposedly a bunch of old men and a 12 yr old boy wade out into a river with a bamboo pole. the old men hold the pole while the boy tries to climb to the top. if the pole snaps in half the fortune (i'm not sure what, but maybe the new year) is bad and if the pole doesn't break the fortune is good.... anyway we missed it :(
next year we'll be on time. however, here are some photos of the rest of the excitement:
i'm starting to bring my sketch book along for my lengthly train rides. i must look really weird drawing sleeping passengers while studying japanese. nihongo ga sukoshi hanashimasu.
we had a decent mexican meal for the first time since we've been in japan. directly after we found this odd run down phone booth. it may not be interesting, but if you knew our neighborhood you would be just as surprised as us. this place is way too spic-and-span to have any character like this phone booth.
